FFAP In The Afternoon: Festival for Fashion & Arts for Peace

FFAP (Festival for Fashion and Arts for Peace), held last weekend at Bedoiun Juba - South Sudan. 

The FFAP team showed beautiful pieces within the Crafts Market representing 8/10 South Sudanese states that were colorful and attractive to the eye in the afternoon. Below are some of the pieces that were displayed:

Northern Bahr El Gazal was my favorite, the way the beads were organized and color mixed was absolutely fierce. 

Events such as FFAP are highly needed in South Sudan, it is one of the 1st Festivals to be held to appreciate Fashion and Arts. & OH! Stay tuned for "FFAP After Dark" Breath taking designs by Akuja Mading DeGarang, The Roots and more.

The South Sudanese Child - DYNAMQ

Yes, The South Sudanese Children again. I talk about South Sudan as much as possible because I must keep on building us up. A part of building this new nation is supporting one another, big or small we must support and let each other know that we are here & you are not alone. & Speaking of not being alone. I recently learned that Dynamq the South Sudanese sensation has been nominated for "SIX" awards at the Afro ENT Awards. Its always joy to my ears to hear about the achievements of my brothers and sisters back home and abroad so of course I have the links for you to vote & not just that but I also got the link to his new music video "Jere Jere". "Jere Jere" is the name of his new music video, If you speak Arabi Juba; this song is about to be your favorite. Its basically a message to stop racism and tribalism, I love how he combined every race you could almost think of and each tribe you could think of in South Sudan. The song is #FANTABILOUS.

P.s... Ladies, Now I'm not sure if Dynamq is single & from my conversation with him I found out he isn't married. Wouldn't he be a catch? ; ) lol #IHADTO

The Photoshoot That Caught Me Off Guard - Sun Flare

Everyone has those insecure early days whether about how they looked, what color they were, how tall they were or what size they were. My biggest insecurity was my color. It wasn't that I didn't like it, it was that I didn't know how to react to people who gave me negative comments about it. 

It always used to be summer that my color tackled me the most, the more of the sun I had seen the darker I would get, my schoolmates would tell me the sun hates you. Its already bad you have a dark color, the sun keeps making it worst. So of course being a 6 or 7 year old in primary, I started hating myself, the sun and summer time. 

I started getting secure about my color at a very young age also, why? My Mother told me something I remember every time I look into the mirror, every time I see the beauty of dark skin in anyone else, every time I hear something negative. She told me what always brings me back to sanity, I asked my mother in tears one day telling her how people hated me because they hated my color, I asked her why people hated my color and why the sun makes me so dark? she said: "The Sun loves your color and its attracted to it that's why it always focuses on you when its out everyday, you're the 1st person it sees. She continued by telling me you will continue to hear those negative comments every once in a while all your life but you can only move on from that once you stop listening and once you accept and see your own beauty and what makes you different and special from everyone else.

This Photoshoot that I did said everything my mother told me and better yet, it resembled "The Sun" as well, which is one of the main reasons why I've gotten over an insecurity. They also called it "Sun Flare", the title made me feel like its who I am.

Days Like This I Get Homesick

Happy Easter Young World,

While skyping with my siblings earlier on, we started reminiscing Easter back home, one of the few days our mother didn't have to wake us up because we got so excited about the day we woke up early to go to church. The day my mother made so many dishes for lunch inviting relatives to spend the happy day with.

I remember playing football with my siblings right before lunch patiently waiting on my Father to get back home because once he did, it was like Christmas, he brought our favorite deserts --> My sisters LOVED Ice Cream, I have always been a Chocolate person and my brothers wanted no business with anything that doesn't have meat(LOL)!

I remember passing food around the table, I always sat next to my father because I loved listening to his stories, most of the time that one story of how he was such a good boxer and a fast runner in his early days, I believed him because when he played football with us, he was very fast. My mother would also share with us stories of sharing and caring for others, giving back and what Easter is all about, I loved those stories too.

After lunch, me and my siblings get back to playing football, it was something we all had love for. I remember my father joining us while my mother sat outside with her book watching us play. Easter has always been one of my favorite days with family.

This Easter I didn't have that but I have all the memories and great stories so it could never loose its meaning to me =).
